March (2011) I conceived a grand, panoramic project to reflect on our conception of human nature, from Prehistory through the current First Cyber Age: Who have we imagined ourselves to be, and what of our relationship to the Universe, to Nature, and to Each Other?
Feb 5, 2012 I started. The accomplishment may take a couple or a few years, but this first iteration suffices to illustrate the conceptual approach and the visual flavor. Just know that:
· The graphic is just a prototypical ‘detail’ – the ultimate scope will present a much enlarged vista, and will not include this particular graphic at all.
· This particular graphic is no more than a Photoshop exercise to develop the necessary technical skills and visual sensibilities (total beginner at this stage).
· The artistic details appropriated into this limited graphic come from:
o Ancient cave painting
o Buddha
o Aphrodite of Milos, better known as Venus of De Milo (circa 100BC)
o The Fall (Hugo van der Goes, circa 1479)
o The Creation of Adam (Michelangelo, circa 1511)
o Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte (Georges Seurat, 1884)
o Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going? (Paul Gauguin, 1897)
o Les Nympheas Water Lilies (Claude Monet, 1906 )
o Les Demoiselles D’Avignon (Pablo Picasso, 1907)
o The Dream (Henri Rousseau, 1910)
o Nighthawks (Edward Hopper, 1942)
o Homo Cyberius - Cyber Man #2 (Stephen Rowe, 2012)
2015 Update: Actually worked quite a bit on the grand scheme described above, but ultimately abandoned it, I am really a writer more than a graphic artist.
